A Six Year Deal And A Hefty Salary

Texas A&M's New Head Coach Mike Elko: A Look at His Salary and Contract

A Six-Year Deal and a Hefty Salary

Texas A&M has hired former Duke head coach Mike Elko as its new head coach, and the details of his contract have been revealed. Elko has signed a six-year deal worth a total of $42 million, which will run through January 31, 2030. His annual base salary will be $7 million, and he will also have a staff salary.

A Comparison to His Previous Contract

Elko's new contract is a significant upgrade from his previous one at Duke. At Duke, he earned $2.1 million per year. His new salary at Texas A&M is more than triple that amount, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the ACC.

Incentives and Bonuses

In addition to his base salary, Elko will also be eligible for incentives and bonuses based on the performance of the team. The details of these incentives have not yet been released.

A Buyout Clause

Elko's contract also includes a buyout clause. If he is fired without cause, Texas A&M will owe him 75% of the remaining value of his contract. This buyout clause is a common provision in coaching contracts and is designed to protect the coach in the event of a termination.
